Position Purpose:
The Regional Deputy Director will assist in leading the Member Strength Department and the Region in meeting the goals that align with the vision and mission of SEIU2015. Must show skill in all core competencies expected of Local 2015 staff. The Deputy Director reports to the Regional Director.

- Lead with vision and purpose to inspire staff and members to engage in and lead on key union priorities, including politics, growth and membership

- Demonstrated competency in organizing and representational work including a basic knowledge of related labor laws and regulations related to the organizing and representation of workers. (Ex. NLRA, FLSA, PERA)

- Highly competent in using Microsoft Office, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Also demonstrates the willingness to harness the power of social media to help execute the work of the organization
Experience and Education:
- 5+ years of experience in union or community organizing and representation.
- 2+ years of experience in leading large staff teams across multiple geographies or program areas.
- Demonstrated leadership and commitment to the goals of SEIU and its leaders.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment and to work independently with elected leaders in complex political and local union situations.
- Demonstrates high level of experience in all elements of creating and executing field/organizing program and campaigns, including developing & leading teams, staff supervision, planning, evaluation, budgeting, and accountability to outcomes.
- Demonstrates high level experience in leading bargaining and/or new worker organizing campaigns.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing environments and ability to work under pressure
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound independent judgment with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams to meet goals around membership, CAF, leader development, and building worker organization
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate data on program or campaign area, and use data to guide decisions
- Demonstrated knowledge of the long term care industry and labor laws
- Effective oral and written communication including public presentations.

Duties & Responsibilities:
A wide range of responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Leads all areas of staff development to ensure that the Regional team is resourced which may include hiring, training, development, supervision, managing and discipline.
- Support and direct the development of managers in a Region and oversee the development and implementation of Regional staff development.
- In coordination with Regional team develop and execute annual regional strategic plans that advance Regional objectives.
- In coordination with Regional team creates Regional annual budget projections and identify resources needed to drive annual strategic objectives.
- Independently develops, implements and is responsible for outcomes of regional goals and campaigns that align with and produce results towards the program of the Local and International Union.
- Under the direction of the Regional Director is responsible for developing an effective Regional Senior Team.
- Supports and develops managers in their Region to develop high performing industry, regional and campaign teams.
- Strategizes and leads the development of independent workplans with various local union departments to ensure alignment of organizational priorities grounded in the work of organizing new members, bargaining, representation, political engagement, and leadership development.

- Other duties as assigned which may include assuming part or all of the Director’s role, as needed, in the event of absence, leave or period of high workload
Scope and Nature of Supervision:
- Deputy Director will report to their assigned Regional Director.
Working Conditions:
- Willingness and ability to work long, irregular hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Must have a valid California driver’s license, reliable use of car for work, and required automobile insurance
- Willingness and ability to travel; the position covers large geographic areas and often requires temporary assignments away from home
- Work is generally performed in the field with members and outside constituents.
