System Administrator

Position Purpose:

Systems Administrator is responsible for the maintenance of all hardware, software and phones (cell & desk) of Local 2015. The position also supports network operations for Local 2015 by maintaining servers and network devices. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the Union, as well as ensuring that systems hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff and volunteers to perform at the highest level.

This individual will assist with projects, events and technical issues in the initiation and planning phases of project life cycle. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project; technical analysis and design; and support of staff in executing, testing and rolling out of solutions while serving as a technical expert in the area of system administration for complex operating systems.

Investigates and analyzes feasibility of system requirements and develops system specifications. This role also identifies methods and solutions to provide a high level of service to the user community within Local 2015. This individual is responsible for all hardware, software and helpdesk functions to support Local 2015 in its day-to-day operations and all other duties as assigned by the IT Director.

Systems Administration:

  • Proactively maintain, troubleshoot, and provide training on all technology in Local 2015, including laptops, workstations, cell phones, cloud-based desk-phones, printers, network equipment, and audio-visual equipment.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the Local 2015 computers by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance and repair. Ensure that records of IT equipment inventory are properly maintained. Apply revisions to host system firmware and software. Works with vendors to assist support activities
  • Extensive experience in managing Microsoft 365 environment including managing Exchange Online, Proofpoint, and mail provisioning, management, and archiving
  • Experience with cloud-based firewalls, triage and implementation of access and security measures including ZTNA, CASB, etc.
  • Ensure optimum performance of staff laptops, desktops, and network equipment.
  • Setup, maintain and configure Zoom remote meeting equipment to support on-site and remote participants.
  • Document system configurations and maintain equipment standards across SEIU 2015 enterprise
  • Setup requested audio, video and computer equipment for events and meetings
  • Establishes, maintains and manages user accounts. Installs, modifies and maintains systems and utility software on computer systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of software licensing and various subscriptions assigned to the IT Department
  • Stays current with technological developments in systems administration technology and recommends ways for Local 2015 to take advantage of new technology
  • Suggest new hardware, methodologies, and technologies to best support the goals and operations of Local 2015.

Network/Server Infrastructure:

  • Create and maintain login and email accounts onAD, Exchange Online and Zoom Phones.
  • Proactively provide protection from viruses and conduct periodic scans on workstations and servers by leveraging MDR tools
  • Troubleshoot network issues/outages including operating systems on servers, implementing intermittent connectivity, routers, switches, firewalls, virus protection, email systems and disaster recovery
  • Install, configure and troubleshoot infrastructure applications (SQL, DC’s, Etc.). Develop, document and maintain installation and configuration procedures and policies for mission critical systems
  • Maintain peak network/systems operations by proactively conducting network/system monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting system hardware, software, networks and operating systems; designing and running system load/stress testing; escalating application problems to vendors for timely resolution.
  • Proactively monitor network security to identify possible intrusions, security threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Vigilantly perform daily backup operations, making certain all mission critical data is protected at all times while ensuring integrity of the backups.
  • Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.

Phones:

  • Configure Zoom phones, create and maintain user accounts and extensions on Zoom platform
  • Provide training and support to staff.
  • Setup and configure cell phones for users and provision new lines for new staff.
  • Maintain meticulous records of all Local 2015 cell phone accounts to include both staff accounts, Executive Board and various campaign related accounts.
  • Thoroughly review monthly bills to ensure users adhere to thresholds set on their respective phone lines.
  • Conduct troubleshooting on both Cellphones and desk phones as required
  • Maintain accurate records of ShoreTel licensing

Department/Local Union Structure:

  • Interact positively with all staff.
  • Occasional non-IT related organizing and campaign work.
  • Required to remain abreast of new technologies and their effect on the Local 2015 computing environment.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the department and mission of the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Information Technology or a related field and 4 years’ experience troubleshooting and maintaining a broad range of hardware and software. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year for year basis.
  • Microsoft Certification is highly desirable
  • Ability to communicate technical procedures in non-technical terms.
  • Ability to manage multiple short deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and systems.
  • Ability to follow complex instruction with minimal supervision.

Physical Demands: Sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods (up to four hours at a time) typing. Lifting up to 50 pounds...Employees must recognize that working in the labor movement is tough, demanding work, which sometimes requires working long or irregular hours that may necessitate overtime. - Some limited travel may be required.

Scope and Nature of Supervision:

  • The System Administrator reports to the IT Director or designee.

Salary Range: $78,001.83 to $81,950.67
