Purpose:

SEIU Local 2015 is California’s Long Term Care workers organization that will unleash the collective power of long term care workers, their families, and their communities, harness the power of technology, and build a broad movement to disrupt the unjust status quo in order to bring lasting transformational change towards a more just society for all.

SEIU Local 2015 represents 372,000 homecare providers, nursing home workers and assisted living center workers throughout California, making it the largest union of long term care givers in California and the second largest SEIU local in the nation. Position Summary

The Regional Director leads a team of staff and member leaders to:

  • Develop strategies and plans that advance the members’ organizational goals in their geographic region.
  • Execute strategies and tactics that increase outcomes on internal organizing of membership, representational activities, and member leadership development.
  • Provides leadership on the development and execution of regional and union wide political and community programs.

As part of the senior staff body, the Regional Director collaborates in the overall development and implementation of SEIU Local 2015 members’ Mission, Vision, Values and Organizational Priorities.

The Regional Director is accountable to his/her respective Executive Vice President and reports to the Statewide Field Director. The position is located in the respective region of the state.

  • Demonstrated competency in organizing and representational work including a basic knowledge of related labor laws and regulations related to the organizing and representation of workers. (Ex. NLRA, FLSA, PERA)
  • Demonstrated ability to embrace and foster innovation into their work and within their teams that helps improve efficiencies and execute towards organizational goals.
  • Highly competent in using Microsoft Office, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Also demonstrates the willingness to harness the power of social media to help execute the work of the organization

Required Skills and Education

  • A minimum of five years of experience as a Union staff person leading and supervising multiple teams of staff on internal or external organizing campaigns and at least 2 years contract bargaining and representational related experience with increasing responsibilities.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Leads and develops a team of Internal Organizers in developing, executing and evaluating short and long term plans that advance the organizational goals of our members.
  • Provides direction, staff development and accountability measures including disciplinary action (if needed) to staff in his/her region.
  • Develops action-based campaigns on issues that engage members, that are opportunities to build the organization and that are aligned with organizational goals.
  • Coordinates with other departments statewide to create alignment of union wide goals and to maximize resources and opportunities to advance goals.
  • Supports the development of member leaders to confidently execute organizational goals in their region.
  • Provides strategic input to Officers on organizational goals.
  • Develops budget recommendations for implementation of regional plans; and oversees appropriate budget expenditures.
  • Upon request, acts as a spokesperson for respective Executive Vice President.
  • Builds and create relationships with external partners, media and elected officials to advance the members’ organizational goals.
  • Develops within his/her region specific organizing campaigns for represented facilities and works closely with the Organizing Director to identify organizing opportunities among unrepresented facilities in their region.
  • Develops uniform standards for review and evaluation of campaigns.
  • Ensures the tracking, reporting and analysis on all regional activity, goals and outcomes in her/his purview.
  • Oversees the handling of contract renewals, grievances and arbitration in their region and may act as the chief spokesperson and negotiator in collective bargaining for assigned representational units.
  • Coordinates with appropriate departments to develop a collective bargaining strategy appropriate for each instance to advance industry standards.
  • Testifies as expert witness before various agencies

Physical Requirements:

Work is generally performed in the field with members and outside constituents. Long and irregular hours required. Travel required.

Scope and Nature of Supervision:

Salary Range: $126,465.94 - $132,868.28

The Regional Director reports directly to their assigned officer or Statewide Field Director.
